Webmasters and online business professionals want to rank their presence well in Google and the other major search engines for the terms that they would like to rank well for. The problem is nobody knows exactly how the major search engines decide to rank websites. What will usually happen is the webmasters will place a few terms on their site and build links for a select list of keywords. In most instances this will help rank the site bringing in decent web traffic. Now what the webmasters sometimes miss is what Google and the other major search engines are actually thinking about their website. Once external links begin pointing towards your website giving it more authority in the search engines your site will begin rising. To take full advantage of this you need to know all the terms your website beginning to rank higher for. You should also know the monthly search volume for these keywords to see how much effort you should use to optimize for these keywords.
Google webmaster tools is one of the most useful search engine optimization tools on the web to date. This tool will show you exactly what Google thinks about your web presence. If you have not already signed up for webmaster tools be sure to do so. You can find it in your Google account settings or by searching Google for it. For those who are unable to index their website in the major search engines this tool will look through your site and let you know the crawler permissions that have been set up. Sometimes when setting up a site the hosting company will place these permissions to no crawl making it impossible for the search engine spiders to even look at your site. One of the best SEO tools on Google webmaster tools is the search queries. This is where you find out exactly what you are ranking well for and what you should be optimizing and link building for. First look at the list of terms you are ranking for and the average position of your website. If it is sitting on page two or three then very little optimization and link building will be needed to raise your site to position one.
You should also be using this tool with the Google adwords keyword tool which you can find by doing a quick Google search. The adwords tool will allow you to find out exactly how much monthly volume any given keyword has letting you know if it has enough volume to help you earn money online. If you only have a few keywords in the list of search queries then you should build more links for wanted terms which will help your website rise for many different terms. You will notice Google ranking your website within the top few pages for terms that have a decent amount of traffic. Usually terms that are at the very least equal to your original terms which you optimized your site for. These terms you need to focus on when internet marketing.
You will learn everything you need to know for a successful online business. Topics on this blog include internet marketing, monetization, and online business.

How To Increase Traffic
If you have ever owned or operated a website with a hope of being able to make money online you know the hardest part is getting traffic to your website. Personally the best way I have found to get targeted traffic to any web presence is ranking it well in the major search engines. To rank well in the major search engines you will need to become familiar with search engine optimization. There are two types of search engine optimization. Onsite SEO is the process of placing the keywords you would like to rank well for on priority areas of your website. Offsite SEO is all the work you do offsite which is mainly building keyword anchored links towards your website. Before I move on it is important to note that everything in this article is from my observations rather than fact. No one but Google engineers know everything about Google and they change how they rank websites frequently. This means that even if you figure out how to rank well in Google today they may change algorithm factors and you may not rank well tomorrow.
The most important aspect of SEO is understanding what search engines want. They want their visitors to find the most relevant and helpful websites possible. This means that if you sacrifice the readability, usability, or look of your website for SEO purposes then you are working against your own goals. Always put the visitor first and you will be rewarded both by visitor referrals and search engine position. When you begin optimization you will need to know the keywords you would like to rank well for. To pick these go to Google Adwords Keyword Tool and type in a couple of keywords. This tool will bring up a list of 100 keywords and the keyword you entered. The tool will also tell you the traffic of all the keywords it lists. Pick a few keywords you want to rank well for. I highly recommend you pick the keywords which have the most traffic.
Now that you have chosen your keywords it is time to place them on the site in the positions which mean the most to Google. The first and most important is the URL. Place your most important keyword in the URL and since this is what Google will look at first. You should also place the keywords in headings and in the first few sentences of your content. Remember not to repeat the keywords over and over making your site impossible to read. Now that you have your site set up to start getting free web traffic the next is building links. You will want to place the keywords between the anchor tags of every link you build. The two places that are great to build keyword anchored text links are free web directories and article directories. For a list of free web directories visit directorycritic.com and for a list of article directories search Google for “list of article directories”.
When you start getting traffic from Google and the other major search engines it will be important to monetize. Affiliate marketing is a great monetization technique and my personal favorite affiliate programs are the paid to take surveys websites.

Targeting Keywords During SEO
Setting up an online business is one of the easiest steps when trying to make money online. Anyone can go to blogger.com or squidoo.com and make a few pages which could potentially make them money. Blogger especially makes setup simple by automatically adding adsense when you click on monetization. What people struggle with is building free web traffic by ranking well in Google and the other major search engines. This takes quite a bit of time and before you can even begin attempting to rank well you will need to learn the basics of SEO. This article will not be covering the basics, but rather a deep look at targeting keywords. If you need to learn the basics either search Google for a “SEO tutorial” or hit a webmaster forum such as v7n.com/forums and look through the SEO threads. Personally I recommend the forum because you can interact. This means if you have a specific question put it out there and have experienced webmasters answer. The main rule with using webmaster forums is do not join to spam your site. Remember that the major search engines will have much more traffic and the traffic you get will be targeted.
When you begin search engine optimization you will need to have an idea for a niche. For most they will already have an idea. If you dont then think of something you really enjoy or have some expertise with. Take that idea and head over to Google Adwords Keyword Tool which will let you know how much traffic your idea or niche has. This is when you will get some insight on the amount of traffic and income you will be able to generate if you rank well for certain keywords. Just input the keywords into the tool and switch the search preference to exact. This will let you know how many people per month is searching for the word. Make sure to check through a bunch of different keywords. A good example is the “make money online” niche. Some keywords will have very little traffic while others with only a word difference will have quite a bit. “Make money free” does not even come close to “make money online” in terms of traffic.
The final step is implementing the keywords you have chosen into your website or blog. This is a tricky step because if you overload your presence with the keywords Google will think you are attempting to trick them by repeating keywords and ban your website. If you use the keywords to little the major search engines will have no idea what your website is about and not rank you for the keywords you would like to rank well for. It is important to use your main keywords in the areas that search engines look hardest. These include the URL, headings, and the first few lines of content. Make sure you place the keywords in these areas because the search engines will find them.

How To Increase Page Rank
For those that would like to learn how to make money online you will need to learn about internet marketing. If you visit webmaster forums such as v7n.com/forums you will be bombarded with terms you may be unfamiliar with. In this article I would like to break down one of the terms which you may see, but not recognize. Page rank is the way in which Google grades the popularity of a website by judging the incoming links and reflecting that in a number from 0 to 10. Every link you create on a page which has been indexed by Google will help increase the page rank. Now one thing which confuses webmasters and bloggers is they think when they gain page rank they will increase their position within the SERPs. Sadly this is not the case, page rank does not reflect where your website will fall for any given term. This is decided by the words on your website and the keywords within the links coming into your website.
When you go to increase page rank if you want to increase your free web traffic then you will need to build links with words between the anchor tags. The majority of places which will let you build links want you to place a title for the link. If you do this not only will your page rank begin to increase you will also notice your website rising in Google for the term. One thing to remember before you begin marketing is when you want to market a website you must be in it for the long run. The first year when operating an online business expect very little earning. This is the time which you should be attempting to catch the rest of online businesses in your niche. They have been at work for years building links and marketing. The nice thing is when they reach the top in most cases marketing will slack to the point of only keeping their position.
There are many places you can build links to increase your page rank. The first place I recommend starting is the thousands of free web directories over at directorycritic.com. Most of these directories will allow you to add a website title which is where you should place they keywords you would like to rank well for. Submitting to these directories will take weeks since there are literally thousands of them. Once you have submitted to these directories start writing articles on a regular basis. There are plenty of places you can submit your article the first place to publish a freshly created article is your own web presence. Once Google has found the article on your website submit it to all the top article directories which you can find by doing a Google search and freetrafficsystem.com. If you are interested in furthering your link building you may want to consider link exchanges. The two ways to do link exchanges is either search out and find websites you would like to exchange links with or join a website like linkmarket.net which has a directory of websites wanting to exchange links.
After a while of marketing you will find your position, page rank, and traffic increasing. If you would like to monetize the new traffic check out the affiliate programs on these paid survey websites.
